Our buildings are up!
Jonathon and Anna had an extremely busy 2009 getting the land, people and projects ready to start the building process. The good news is, BUILDING HAS BEGUN! The base of 2 classrooms has been established and building officially began on 29th January 2010. Jonathon, our formidable vice-president, moved back to Sudan to be the on-site project manager from December to February 2010. He reports that much needed supplies have arrived in Aweil and initial construction is well underway!
During this period we have seen great progress. The land has been totally cleared, the well is being dug, stones for the classroom bases are now on-site, iron sheets and cement have been secured from local contractors and the construction of the driveway has begun! View photos and powerpoint presentations below.
Jonathon is returning to Aweil in December this year to continue construction of the next stage…two more classrooms and furnishings of the four classrooms, being desks, chairs and blackboards etc.
We need your help for the roof to be installed and classroom furniture to be purchased. Our plan is to introduce a new grade of students to new buildings each year. Our first group of students are Grade 7 girls from the Wau area. It is our goal to have girls from Grades 7 to 10 learning within our classrooms by 2012.
To help us achieve these goals, please make a donation or become a SSEG member.
